Rearing kids is a social responsibility!

selected

The young ones of any living species is a treat to watch! The umpteen attempts that the helpless souls make to adapt to earthly life and the countless trials and errors in the process are watched over with joy and caution by the parents and caregivers.

Kids evoke in us a sense of bliss, completion and expectations. They are the ones who would carry on our legacy on earth, making us feel both proud and apprehensive at once.

Though they be borne of us, we have to understand that they are individuals on their own. And hence, they are just as different as they are similar to us. If we have two or more kids, each is so different from the other as well. It would do us a lot of good to accept each of our child’s good and bad traits and help him/her develop into his/her unique personality.

How do we look upon our kids? Kailash Satyarthi said it beautifully when he summed up childhood as simplicity!

Just as looking at the world with the child’s eye halves most of our problems in life, one need not specially mention how important it is for grown-ups to get down to the child’s level to UNDERSTAND children. They are such innocent ignorant little souls. And yes, though their genetic makeup does play a role in their behavioral traits in life, the environment in which they are brought up has a telling effect upon their personality development.

In this context, it is needless to say that the child’s environmental factors include:

  • Home
  • School
  • Locality that he lives in
  • Culture followed by the people living in his locality
  • Beliefs, customs, values, traditions followed by family and community members
  • The peer group
  • Education and learning that he imbibes, all of which eventually shape him up as a unique individual!

Therefore, the child’s healthy upbringing is a collective social responsibility!
